Improving Cape Cod’s Water Quality with Wastewater Financing and Policy

DESCRIPTION:

Degradation of coastal water quality is one of the most pressing environmental and economic challenges facing Cape Cod. Cape Cod’s estuaries are impacted by excess nitrogen, primarily from the region’s heavy reliance on on-site septic systems to treat wastewater. This session will include an update on the subsidies provided to critical wastewater and water quality projects through the Cape Cod and Islands Water Protection Fund and a discussion of the Commonwealth’s proposed regulatory framework to ensure timely action to improve water quality.

Presenters:

Erin Perry | Deputy Director, Cape Cod Commission
Gary Moran | Undersecretary for Environmental Policy and Climate Resilience, MA Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs
