Streamlining Context-Sensitive Design: Pre-approved Housing Plans

September 18, 2024 | 1:45 P.M.
Harbor Room, Harbor Building
Session Description:

Streamlining permitting of housing development and redevelopment in appropriate areas is a key regional recommendation of the Regional Housing Strategy. There are many different tools to help streamline what can be complex and lengthy permitting processes. One strategy gaining momentum throughout the country is pre-approved plans for housing. These plans go through the permitting process upfront, are designed in context-sensitive ways to ensure they contribute to the architectural character of a neighborhood, and provide greater predictability for housing development and redevelopment projects for both the developers and the community. Participants in this session will provide an overview of pre-approved plan programs and their successes.

Speakers:
  • Allison Thurmond Quinlan, Principal, Flintlock LAB
  • Eric Kronberg, Principal, Kronberg Urbanists and Architects
  • Chloe Schaefer, Chief Planner, Cape Cod Commission
